π¦ BanksWhat is a credit report and SLIK in Indonesia?
When you apply for a loan, a credit card, a KPR mortgage, a motorbike or car on credit, or an online loan (pinjol), the lender almost always runs a credit check to assess the risk that you will not pay. The main record is SLIK β Sistem Layanan Informasi Keuangan β run by the OJK, which replaced the old BI Checking system in 2018. Every bank, finance company and licensed pinjol reports to it. There are also private credit bureaus (such as PEFINDO Biro Kredit) that build scores on top of the same data. Understanding what SLIK records and how the collectibility rating works helps you look after your credit.
What SLIK contains and the collectibility rating
SLIK shows the credit facilities you hold (loans, credit cards, KPR, paylater, pinjol), the limit or original amount, the outstanding balance, the collateral, and your payment history. Each facility carries a collectibility score from 1 to 5: Kol-1 is current, Kol-2 is 1β90 days late ("special mention"), and Kol-3 to Kol-5 are increasingly bad (substandard, doubtful, loss). Anything Kol-2 or worse makes a new loan much harder.
Lenders combine SLIK with your income and existing commitments. There is no formal enquiry blacklist as in some countries, but a run of recent applications and several small pinjol loans open at once both count against you.
Defaults and clearing your name
The old "BI Checking blacklist" is a myth in its strict form β SLIK is a history, not a permanent ban. But a bad collectibility mark stays visible after you settle the debt, and lenders look at the whole history, so a past Kol-5 still hurts for years even once paid.
If you are behind, talk to the lender early about a restructuring (keringanan) before the facility slips to Kol-3. Once you have cleared a bad debt, ask the lender to report the settlement to SLIK and get a clearance letter (surat keterangan lunas) β then check SLIK a month later to confirm it updated.
Pull your own SLIK report
You can request your SLIK report free through the OJK's iDebku portal (idebku.ojk.go.id) or app, or in person at an OJK office, using your KTP. It is not a credit application and does not affect anything. Do this before any big application so you can fix errors first.
If a facility on your report is wrong β a loan you never took (identity theft via pinjol is common), or a debt you have paid β raise it with the lender that reported it and, if they do not fix it, complain to the OJK. Keep every payment receipt and clearance letter.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does checking my own SLIK lower my score?
- No. Pulling your own SLIK report through iDebku is not a credit application and is not visible to lenders as an enquiry. Do it regularly, and especially before applying for a KPR or a car loan.
- How do I get my credit report for free in Indonesia?
- Request your SLIK report from the OJK through the iDebku portal (idebku.ojk.go.id) or app, or at an OJK office, using your KTP. It is free. Private bureaus like PEFINDO Biro Kredit also sell scores, but the OJK's SLIK is the record lenders actually use.
- Is there really a BI Checking blacklist?
- Not as a permanent ban. SLIK (which replaced BI Checking) is a payment history with a collectibility rating of 1 to 5. A past bad rating stays visible after you pay, and a Kol-2 or worse on a current facility is what actually blocks new credit β so keep everything at Kol-1.
